Room 217, Friday Afternoon

Jul 06, 2007 12:30

Savannah was sitting at her desk, doing some research and writing. She was still confused and not sure where she stood with some things, but her mind was also filled with other stuff that needed to be done. However, the party the other night had been fun and she had realy enjoyed talking to Mary. She was definitely going to have to go see the other woman again soon.

She worried her bottom lip as she thought about the message she had left Johnny. She hoped he had gotten it and would come talk to her about it soon. She really needed to try to explain to him why Eve was so protective of her. Just how does one tell the truth about something like that?

The phone rang, jarring Savannah out of her thoughts.

Savannah reached for the phone without looking. "Hello?"

"Hi, Savannah," Paige said. "I take it you've been staying out of trouble since I haven't gotten any phone calls."

"Hey, Paige," Savannah said cheerfully. "Of course I've been staying out of trouble. I even managed not to ever get detention."

"I'm impressed. Well, Lucas and I are going to fly in tomorrow to pick you up," Paige said. "We've got a nice place here in Portland and there's a rec center not far from the house where they offer art classes."

Savannah's heart dropped into her stomach. "Tomorrow?" She asked.

"Yeah, I told you we wouldn't make you stay any longer than absolutely necessary," Paige reminded her. "I'm actually surprised you haven't been calling me every day demanding to know when we would be picking you up."

"But... I don't want to go, Paige. I want to stay here." Savannah didn't want to upset Paige, but she really didn't want to leave Fandom right now.

There was a long pause. "You... want to stay?" Paige repeated.

"Yeah... I do."

Another long pause and the sound of muffled conversation. "Savannah?" Lucas's voice came across the line. "Paige said you want to stay in Fandom?"

Savannah nodded. "Yeah, I do, Lucas. I'm a cheerleader and I've made some friends here." My mom is here.

"A... cheerleader?" Lucas repeated, the word sounding foreign from his lips. Paige could be heard muttering in the background something that might have sounded like "... on drugs?"

"I am not on drugs!" Savannah's voice was both hurt and offended at the same time.

"No one was suggesting you were," Lucas said calmly. "But you must admit this change in attitude is a little surprising considering your reaction when we first told you about going to Fandom."

"I know it's just..." She sighed. "Lucas... I feel safe here." She had friends that were witches, Johnny, a big brother who was dating a demon, had met an angel... and Eve. Her mom was here.

Lucas repeated what she said to Paige and there was a muffled, whispered conversation. "Well, that's what we wanted," Lucas finally said. "For you to be safe. So if you want to stay, we won't make you leave."

Savannah was relieved. "Thanks, Lucas. I do feel safe here, and the workshops have been interesting. I just hated the part where I lived in a cabin for three weeks."

Paige took the phone back. "They made you live in a cabin>?!"

Savannah grinned. "Yeah, they did. I thought I told you that the first time I called you?" She shrugged. "We're back in the dorms now, though."

"Well that's good. At least that's more civilized," Paige said. "Well, if you need anything, give us a call, okay?"

"I will. You guys be careful and if you need me, you call, too, okay?"

"Definitely," Paige said. "Take care, kid."

"You, too, Paige." This time, Savannah had a smile on her face. She knew that Paige would want her to feel safe, and it probably helped her guardian feel better knowing that she did really feel safe here.
