Eve was there as soon as she could get down the flights of stairs. She let herself into the room. "Oh, God," she said, seeing Savannah on the bed. "What happened?"

Savannah was slumped over on her side.

"Hurts," she said in a very soft voice. "Got in a fight yesterday, knock back and force bolt spells in rapid succession... hurt bad... didn't sleep... destroyed an evil bear using anti-barrier spell after anti-barrier spell." She swallowed thickly. "Is Johnny okay?"

"I don't know," Eve said, brushing her daughter's hair back from her face. "I'll find out after I take care of you. How bad is the pain?"

"Feel like my head is trying to tear itself apart from the inside," she said thickly. "My entire body feels weak."

"Okay, honey," Eve whispered. "Okay. Where's the book I left with Johnny? Have you seen it?"

"Probably the desk... didn't get a chance..." Savannah closed her eyes.

Eve looked around and found the grimoire sitting on the desk. She grabbed it, returned to the bed, and started paging through it almost frantically with one hand, the other hand repeatedly going through the motions and casting a sorcerer healing spell.

"I'm a brave Teddy Bear Slayer," Savannah laughed weakly. "We killed an evil bear."

"Evil teddy bear bastard," Eve said, letting out a sound as she found the spell she'd wanted. One of the ones that definitely fell into the category of 'don't do this unless you're properly prepared.'

"Okay, honey. This is gonna make you feel stronger," she said, turning so that she could touch Savannah's forehead with one hand. She was so not telling her daughter that she was doing an energy transfer spell.

Yes, telling Savannah that would cause her to freak out in a very big way.

"Chris doesn't like me anymore and I don't know why..."

Because she wasn't about to tell her mom that it was Wyatt that did this to her.

"Do I need to hurt him?" she asked, even as her fingers traced the motions that sent energy flowing from her into Savannah.

"No. Enough people have gotten hurt in the last few days."

"Okay," Eve said. "Just making sure."

She smiled. "Talked to Johnny yesterday," she said, fingers still doing the spell. "He's a good man." Because you couldn't call someone with that kind of love and devotion a boy.

The pain was easing and she was getting drowsy. "Talked about what?"

"The stuff you told me. How he feels like an outsider." She smiled gently. "Wrote a lot of stuff in here that's for him as much as it is for you. Anecdotes, explanations of what things mean, stuff like that. So he can understand the theory of your magic, even if he can't understand the actuality."
