put some new shoes on and suddenly everything is right...

Training: Joe Rodota Trail (yet again!)
Miles: 6.5
Time: 1:45
Song: Music is a no-no with TNT, but Paolo Nutini's "New Shoes" was in my head.

Trained with the Team on Saturday morning. It was good. I managed to find a walker with the same pace as myself which is an extremely rare thing - outside of races with more than 10,000. So we cruised along at a nice pace with the sun out and a flat and fast course ahead of us. Oh, and I had my new shoes on - yeah, that still hasn't gotten old.

The best part of the training though was the little talk I attended afterward. Sometimes TNT brings in speakers to educate us about nutrition, injury-prevention, etc. So this guy was a chiropractor and a specialist in something called ART (active release technique). Now I'm not one to jump on board such things and I thus went into the talk with a somewhat skeptical mind. BUT (and this is a big but), I have to say, the man had some interesting things to say. He also had some big-time BS to share with us, but I tried to ignore those parts and left with the following good tips:
  • Stretching is more important than lifting - at least if training for an endurance event. He emphasized the fact that our quads, hams, and calves were getting all the workout they needed. We should focus on stretching: often and the correct way.
  • A few new stretches that I'm really liking... The first is this pigeon stretch for your booty and hips (no, that's not me, silly). The second requires a ball - luckily they have 'em at my gym so I could try it out. Totally worth it. I could fall asleep in this position. Important note: if you google "ball stretch," you'll get info about things you may not want to know about. Just FYI...
