[Ray's out in his back yard for once, lining up baskets of apples. It looks like he's already been busy harvesting as many of the current windfall of apples as possible. And working hard at it, since his hair is damp with sweat, and he has his shirt mostly unbuttoned]
It seems I used up all my scrounging luck finding the materials for a press. What I'm missing is yeast. Soft cider's well and all, but it seems to be a waste of opportunity if that's all we can make out of this. I'm willing to do the work, and I'll split the proceeds with anyone who can bring me yeast.

The weather turning colder has also made me think of something. Does anyone know if it gets cold enough for the lake to freeze? If so, a community icehouse might be a good idea. I know some people have iceboxes, but not everyone, and it would be a way to lay up a supply of food that could be offered to newcomers if nothing else.

he has his priorities,
strangely prepared for this,
what's this civic-mindedness,
the necessities of life,
effieciancy first,
thinking ahead,
a charitable offer?
