Increments

The incremental nature of my and Patrick's move from San Francisco to Seattle is frustrating, and feels inefficient, but I think it's the only way things could really be done.

We have completed the first step (well, almost) of taking the cats to stay with his mother, and delivering my car safely to my family's home, in exchange for my dad's truck. The reasoning for this is that we could not come up with a better way - we have an apartment full of our stuff, my car and his motorcycle. To move traditionally, we'd have rented a moving van, put the things in it and, well... Moved. But the inter-state nature of the move and the fact that adding a van to the mixture produced THREE vehicles made it necessary to come up with a better plan, even if it is more time consumptive. Thus, the final plan was born: Drive the car to Seattle and get my dad's truck. Drive the truck back to SF. After we've packed, we will put the motorcycle in the bed of the truck, rent a trailer for the boxes/furniture, and toe the trailer and bike to Seattle, stopping at Patrick's mom's to pick up the cats on the way.

This should be an adventure. I wish it was already over to be honest. I wish we could call some magical service in SF and say "okay, send up the bike and our stuff now." But we can't. The next week will be grueling but we will make it through. We have to.

Phase two begins when we get back to Berkeley!
