DEPLOYMENT 2: It'll Be a Gas! (Stage 2->4)

Jul 14, 2011 18:09

[It's not even been a week and Balin's already getting a first-hand taste of Mayfield's machinations. Since he wound up in the shoes of a construction worker, he's been unable to avoid being exposed to that floral truth-serum gas pervading the town. Over the course of the 14th, the effects rapidly worsen.]

Eh? You never got a driver's license? But nearly everyone drives these days.

[FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF. THEY HEARD ME.]

Yeah. I never figured it'd matter 'cause they didn't have cars at all on Foreas and Arieki-but now I'm stuck in this crazy town and it's bitin' me in the ass.

Just as well, anyway. I think'a "missus" traded'a "family" car for a horse, and I have no idea how to ride one of those, either.

How disgraceful. People have been riding horses from the beginning of time. Shouldn't it be genetic by now?

walking_nuke July 15 2011, 02:58:41 UTC
Genetic? I don't think it works that way.

I mean, I don't know how to do masonry or pottery and those've been ages-old skills for us too, right? My forte's chemistry and explosives.

[Beat.]

And nukes.

[Dammit why'd he blurt that out?!]

Nukes are overcompensation for weakness. I guess I can see what the problem is here then.

[Balin snorts.]

Learning how to nuke enemies with'a bare hands is part and parcel of the whole Demolitionist gig. Against'a Bane, we really got no other choice.

... Y'know, if I didn't know better you sound a lot wiser beyond your years. Wouldn't expect the average kid your age to say half the things you're sayin' to me.

You a child prodigy or is'ere somethin' else I'm missin'?

I'm an ancient king from human past. And what are Banes?

[Balin's silent for a few seconds. Then he whistles.]

Damn, Mayfield'll take just about anyone anywhere, won't it? Still can't get over those fuckin' talking nations ...

Oh, yeah, the Bane. That's what we call'a alien superpower that trashed Earth seven years ago from my time.

I like the talking countries! Especially the girl ones.

Oh, Aliens? Why didn't anyone summon me? I would have killed them all.

walking_nuke July 15 2011, 03:19:01 UTC
What, you can be summoned? How do ya do that?

kinpika July 15 2011, 03:20:02 UTC
Being able to use magic is a good starting point.

Would Logos count?

Reply

kinpika July 15 2011, 03:22:09 UTC
....what's a Logos?

Reply

walking_nuke July 15 2011, 03:32:23 UTC
Oh boy. How'm I gonna explain this.

Basically, uh, Logos is our word for the Eloh's system of manipulatin' reality with'a sentient mind. Far as I can understand it, they discovered it thousands of years ago through scientific inquiry.

I'm a Logos Receptive, which means I'm genetically capable of understandin'a information'a Eloh encoded into Logos Elements, so I can use Logos myself. That's why I can nuke things with my bare hands.

kinpika July 15 2011, 03:33:08 UTC
I don't think that would work, no.

walking_nuke July 15 2011, 03:40:30 UTC
Eh. Against these sons'a bitches I don't think anyone coulda done much.

The Bane's done'a exact same thing they did to us to God-knows-how-many other races out there in'a galaxy. Those've us still alive are allied with'a two we've found so far, and we're still just hangin' by a thread.

All that's left for me is payin' Crusty back for every innocent life they've taken until they finally kill me for good.
