Want to read something unique this week? diagenou's entry for SCI this week is about his work process, how he gets a feel for the criminals he eventually has to assemble a case for in order for them to be prosecuted. While it's rather tempting to handle the entry as a tantalizing mystery, one should also realize that it's a difficult and harrowing occupation. Approximately 60% of serial killers are never caught; they only 'stop' because they go to prison on some other offense or they die of natural causes. Most of the time they've simply moved on to another county, another region, another state and because of the poor coordination between law enforcement divisions the cases are never linked.

Dee's job is to link cases, to find what the victims have in common which made them choice victims and to eliminate or include suspects for various reasons (not just the obvious modus operandi, and in some cases to tail or to interview potential suspects and victims.

In short, he tries to get these people off the streets and behind bars so that you and I are free to be stupid without ever knowing how close we came to being the next statistic.

His work evaluations speak for themselves. Dee solves 75% of the cases which land on his desk (meaning the cases are linked to a criminal who can then be charged with them) and has a 95% indictment with the courts (meaning that most of the cases presented to a judge, based on his evidence, see the perpetrator behind bars for life or on death row if the state in question has one).

It takes a lot of courage for him to write these entries. If you're suitably impressed, I'd appreciate you going over to the poll HERE.
