LJ Idol Season 5 Week 10 - You Filled Up My Head with So Many Lies

Dec 04, 2008 12:02

o/` "You can say you've got issues, you can say you're a victim.
It's all your parents fault, after all you didn't pick 'em.
Maybe somebody else has got time to listen:
My give-a-damn's busted." o/`

----- "My Give-a-Damn Busted" performed by Jo Dee Messina

Fuck you....

....literally.

I've been involved with her** for longer than most of you have been out of diapers. I know her quirks, her habits, her favorite hang-outs, and her seamy underbelly which half of you want to expose to the public and the rest of you want to deny ever existed. In fact, some of you manage the lamentable practice of reveling in the darker pursuits she has to offer where you think it will be acceptable and then loudly decrying everyone else who keeps her company in more reasonable, acceptable venues.

I can time your antics by the clock. You'll stalk her like the fanbois and girls you are, marking calendars and ticking off the hours until you will again be within her influence. Memphis, Dallas, Pittsburgh --- these are just a few places you'll follow her, Jones-ing for your next fix like an addict. You'll cavort, you'll play, you'll rub shoulders with fellow admirers. You'll bed one another in her name and in celebration of her. You'll reduce her to nothing more than long weekends of sexual misconduct and social depravity.

Two weeks, a month later at most, the accusations will start.

You'll make the announcement that one of her adoring fans has given you a terrible sexually transmitted disease and it's somehow all her fault. No one warned you about her, you'll cry. She looked so reputable and you had absolutely no idea that she hung out with those kind of people. You'll issue a call to arms, both against her and against her entourage --- even those who choose to keep company with her in a more reputable manner...especially those who will point out the holes in your little story and remind you that it takes two to tango. The one thing I'll never see you do is take responsibility for the slander you've created and the reputation you're destroying.

The story will begin to unravel. Since I've been with her so long, I'll be one of the ones defending her reputation. Dramatics, misdirection, and outrage are poor soldiers against an army of facts.

I've got the thread in my hand and now I'm going to pull. It will be you, not her, standing there clothed only in the tattered rags of your lies. I can't quote the facts as you stated them because you've already edited them, but it doesn't matter. Others before you have done this same thing. Same sad song, same old refrain.

- The very fact that you've changed and/or retracted your account of these events multiple times indicates duplicity. So, by the way, does deleting the trail of evidence so that no one can pinpoint exactly what you initially said against her and those involved with her.

- If you're going to say you got an STD because of her, pick one that has a shorter incubation period. The incubation period on HIV varies according to multiple factors, including whether or not you're newly exposed and your age, but most of the medical sources I consulted agree that it would be minimum of six months before antibodies indicating HIV would be detectable using our current blood tests. You could not, therefore, have known you'd gotten HIV a mere two weeks after the supposed incident occurred.

- You should also probably educate yourself about the disease you're supposedly going to die from. Honey, I am old enough to remember when HIV and AIDS first became a concern in the 1980s. Back then, it really was a death sentence. There were no proven methods of treatment or detection and you didn't know you had the disease until it had already transitioned into what they called full blown AIDS. I was even then heavily involved in the GLBT movement. I watched a lot of good people die. I also, as we gained a better understanding of the disease, watched a lot of good people live. It's now possible to live a full life as an HIV positive individual and never develop full blown AIDS. That kind of pokes a hole in your dramatic announcement that you will be dying soonish because of her, doesn't it?

- You tried to take care of that angle by announcing that although you know treatments exist, you cannot afford them and so will not be able to have them. Most big cities have at least one charity organization that can help you get the medical attention you need, if you really did have HIV. Unfortunately, because you've chosen not to disclose your location (and a bunch of other useful facts which could have helped me verify your story) no one can give you those suggestions. You planned it that way so the blame would still lay squarely with her alone.

- In most places, a case can be made for assault with a deadly weapon and even attempted murder if there is someone deliberately going around spreading a deadly disease. You, however, again obscured the facts by claiming that you can't precisely name the perpetrator because he or she has started suing you. You also cleverly recruited someone else to verify this, stating you have filed charges. Well, without those details (city name, name of perpetrator) no one can luck up the police report. They are a matter of public record. The reasoning behind this is simple: there isn't one because it never happened.

She might not be perfect, but I'm involved with her. It's a lifelong commitment and I couldn't stand by and watch you do this again. Not all of us live in that shadowy, seamy underside you've exposed. She's not merely a sexual object to us. She's ours and we're still proud of her. Grow up, please. This time, you picked a dangerous game to play and she's fighting back.

** Edited for clarification. It spoils some of the fun of the entry to do so, even as it proves the entry's effectiveness for the topic, but I had no intention of worrying friends and other readers. "She/her" in this case, refers to a fandom. I don't know why, but they've always been female gendered for me.

This entry has been written for season five of therealljidol. If you liked it, please consider voting for me when the polls go up. I'll post a link and a reminder later.
