Holiday Fic Exchange
Well, we're getting closer to the holidays, which means many of us will be having some sort of gift-giving celebration with our friends, families and co-workers. Why don’t we do a “Secret Santa” type exchange with fic too?! Here’s what I had in mind:
Between now and some deadline (Dec 5?) anyone who wants to participate can request what they would like to have as their “gift”. For example: a story about character X, pairing Y, episode Z, etc. etc. etc. It could be as vague or as detailed as you’d like, keeping in mind that authors DO need some flexibility to be creative. The request does not have to be holiday-themed (although it certainly can be, if that’s what you want to read)!
I will take the requests and randomly assign them, letting each person know which request they have to fulfill via email or private message so it stays “secret” for as long as possible. (Of course, that means I will know whoever is writing my request, but oh well...)
The stories or links to them should be posted here and/or at the Brothersandsisters-tv forums by, say, New Year’s. This, of course, is when the secret part would end, as I know of no way to post anonymously.
People are welcome to write in whatever language they feel most comfortable with (remember there’s always Google Translate!), and the stories can be any length. The only requirement is that you have to do your best to give people what they wanted for their gift. If you’re a lurker and you don’t have an account, send me an email/PM and I will post for you!
So what’s the catch? Everyone who requests a gift fic is then agreeing to write one for someone else. This will only work if we get as many people as possible involved. Hopefully the incentive of getting something you want to read (especially for those people who perhaps would like to see stories about neglected characters/pairings) will encourage some of you to write a B&S fanfic for the first time! Additionally, you won’t need to worry as much about coming up with all the plot details because someone will have already given you an idea. For the more regular writers, you could look on this as a challenge! For everyone, it’s a way of celebrating the holidays with the friends we’ve made through this community!
