Forty (and farty)
Hey, it's my birthday today and I'm celebrating 40 years living on this beautiful planet we call Earth. Pretty cool if you ask me. I used to think 40 was pretty old, but I don't feel old. Heck, I don't feel too different than I did when I turned 30. (Not as far as I can remember, anyway! LOL) I'm also celebrating another rite of passage today; I've decided that today is the day I officially become vegan and start calling myself that. It feels sort of like coming out of the closet all over again. I've been a vegetarian for years and never felt like it was that big a deal, but this feels momentous. Like being reborn in a way; I feel like I'm reclaiming my true authentic self. I suppose that sounds pretty hokey. It sounded that way to me too at first when I started listening to veg podcasts and heard vegans talk about how liberating it feels to stop using animal products. But that's exactly how it does feel; like a weight has rolled off my shoulders and I can become so much more the person I always wanted to be. So I guess this is my birthday present to myself and to the animals. I only wish I'd done it years ago! But hey. :)
