Somebody has a little birthday today!!
See. What was it... 5 years ago? It'll be five years ago this year. I got really drunk, on the night of August 23, 2002, and I'd been talking to Tess on IM and said "hey! I have a cell phone with free long distance! Let me call you!" and forced her off the internet with the other people she was talking to at the time and called her and we talked for a long while. In the beginning, she was the number one drunk dial, and only on the weekends. Then I started calling her after 9 on the weekdays. Then I started calling her all the time, at any given moment, when I had time to spare and things to say.
She's always been the person I can call and tell anything to, no matter how embarassing or lame or, you know, boring. And I love that about her. I love that when I have five minutes to kill, she's up for conversation, and I don't feel like I have to be calling her about anything, we can just talk. Like a conversation we never finished having five years ago.
We've had our highs and lows, our fights and our not calling each other for days but we always make up and we always talk through it, because having the voice on the other end of the line is more important than pride.
I'm lucky, I'm so lucky that I found the other half of my brain, my soul.
