But imagine this: George Lucas decides to make prequels to the original trilogy, only he's tight on money and can only make one. So the character arc is child

It could have been THE BEST TRILOGY OF ALL TIME ahhhhhhhh. It is clearly going to take me some time to get over this.

I thought they were actually setting it up for a series, so I'm hopeful that they come back together and Magneto will come back to help Charles set up the school.

I left the movie and commented to my friend, "That was sooooo gay," and she said, "Huh?" I need more fandom friends IRL to see movies with.

They are setting it up for a series, but I'm pretty sure the series is going to be Magneto not helping Charles set up the school. At least, that is not at all the way I read that ending, with them fucking off and leaving him bleeding on the sand. *shrugs*

HE COULD COME BACK. HOPE SPRINGS ETERNAL. In MY mind, they were leaving it possible that it would be a one-off, if the movie tanked.

I do not see at all how you read that from that ending, but if that's what helps you get by, who am I to iudge?
