in need of a working laptop...
We're on the road, but our laptop now has hardware problems... We're looking for a new one. Here's the message Davi's been posting:
"Has anyone got an old laptop sitting around because they've since gotten a newer one? If you replaced it because the battery no longer holds a charge, I'm cool with keeping it plugged in. It is important that the hardware works, but if the software is all scrambled, that's okay because I intend to put Linux on anyway. Also if the Hard Drive failed, I have a laptop hard drive I could put in it, so that's okay.
It has to be at least 1ghz, preferably 1.5 (so probably not more than about 5 years old), though newer would be awesome. If it's a mac, it'd have to have wifi built in, but a pc would just have to have a pcmcia slot (though built in is okay). It would have to have a network card, a CD drive and at least one working USB port. Other than that, pretty much anything goes. I'd be glad to pay the shipping, and also I'd be glad to trade you something neat for it if you think I've got something you want. Also, my undying love is up for grabs. Also, if you really want it back some day, I could return it to you after this trip, although it would be running linux when you got it back.
I guess I'll put this out to the universe and see what comes back.
