Fear, horror, and wonder. I thought that was great.
This week's big issue: The Doctor straight-up killed a guy, with no mercy. And it makes sense. Confronted with an unrepentant monster, the Doctor offered him several options for settling things peacefully. And when Solomon only got worse and worse, he let him reap as he had sown.
I am choosing to believe that Nefertiti spent at least a few months travelling with the Doctor in between scenes. Because non-contemporary Companions are in tragically short supply. I am also choosing to believe that she did not once remove her hat in front of him, because far too few Companions wear any kind of hat, much less hats that awesome.
Big Game Hunter Dude Rupert Graves was kind of one-note, but he managed to get a couple of smiles out of me.
Trikey the Triceratops. I mean, riding her to get away from Mitchell and Webbot was a long way from being efficient, but the Doctor doesn't do things the efficient way when there's an awesome way to do things.
And the Ponds. Dealing with the fact that the Doctor can't be relied upon, and is going to outlive them, and never really thinks about this. Yeah, they're blatantly setting up the departure. I can live with that -- I still really like Amy and Rory, but as the last episode showed, the writers are running out of ideas for what to do with them.
Rory's Dad -- remember how Rory can just take weird shit on board and deal without breaking his stride? Well, it now appears that only half of that came from growing up with Amy, because his dad went from "none of this makes sense" to "I understood about two words in that technobabble but that's enough to know I have the answer" to "this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to have a picnic while looking at the Earth from space and I am not going to pass it up", all in under six hours.
Finally, apparently in the 24th century the safety of the Earth will be in the hands of the Indian Space Agency. Which makes far more sense than Doctor Who's normal mode of Everything Is Britain. NASA may have quit, England may be a joke, but everybody can chill the fuck out because India's got this.
I do hope we see more of Nefertiti.
