So, I've been keeping up to date with a lot of the new anime this season, and there's quite a few good ones to note: Brighter than Dawning Blue (AKA: Yoake), Lovely Idol, and Tokimeki Memorial, Galaxy Ange-Rune AKA: GALAXY ANGEL II... Lots of stuff to watch, I'll be really entertained this season, right?
Wrong. The grand total of fansub groups between those three is at most 6 fansub groups: 2 to 3 on Yoake, 1 on Lovely Idol, 1 or 2 on Tokimeki Memorial. At this point, there is not a single fansub group doing Galaxy Angel II.
Where are all the fansub groups? Just a moment, and you'll see. Currently working on the anime Kanon are the following groups:
AQS
AnimeU
TWH
A.f.k
SS-Eclipse (That's 2 groups right there)
Shinsen
That's a grand total of 7 groups working on Kanon. Now, I can't blame AQS, as I'm a member of it, but that's downright ridiculous. It's a little excessive if you have more than 4 groups in my opinion... but everyone and their pet dog is doing Kanon. It's not much better on the other side of the fence, with Death Note:
Animanda
TW
Live-evil
C-1
Desuno
SOY
That's six groups right there, and these are just the ones in English. Now, I know Death Note's good and all... but am I the only one that saw that the anime managed to contradict itself in the first episode alone? This is a series where things depend upon following logic to put together, contradicting yourself is akin to annihilating the plotline. But of course, that won't stop fansubbers...
Maybe I'm just a little bitter, but it seems like these days fansubbing's all about popularity: Lots of people jumping onto the most likely anime to get you recognition, whilst the other anime just kind of wind up ignored. Honestly, six groups on one anime whilst other ones go with only one subber (said subber, by the way, is the group that first did Higurashi - and I applaud wind for going and subbing something good that everyone else was ignoring once more. It happened with Higurashi too: They were the first ones to do it because everyone else was ignoring it... and look at how good that was) seems just a little strange to me.
Don't mind me, I'm just stewing in a corner wishing for Galaxy Ange-Rune fansubs.
