So today was one of two geography 362 fieldtrips. This one was to Vancouver (how exciting! :-/ ) . The perspective taken on this trip was on Mega-Events specifically Expo '86 and the coming 2010 olympics. We looked at previous infrastructure, new infrastructure and sustainable infrastructure being build for 2010. We hiked it practically , and I mean 90% of the way, around the whole of False Creek by Science World---Science World to Granville Island. Not fun in flip flops, no siree. In fact I didn't know we were going to be hiking it so much, I would have worn my runners otherwise. I got a blister on my foot from the rubbing of the sandal and water getting in my sandal from the wet grass we had to trample on to get over to what is affectionately known as needle park by Grand Central Station on Main Street. A set was being built to film Fantastic 4---apparently they're landing a helicopter right in the middle of this park that so happens to be a memorial for some Montreal women who were killed. (how appropriate--someone should protest this).
We then walked quite a way from the Aquabus to Davie Street. My little legs can only move so fast and the entire group seemed to be speed walking, and I was none too impressed. I was way in the back practically the entire way and they're lucky I know Vancouver well enough. We split into groups of 3-5 --how I got stuck with four guys is unknown to me. And they felt they could burp and fart and make rude jokes in front of me ---how honoured I was. Our mission was to visit 5 parks in Vancouver Downtown so we quickly ate lunch at subway (funnily enough we all had roasted chicken--classic fav that never lets us down) and then took the number 6 bus to Seymore and W. Hastings. We took pictures of Victory Park, the Woodward's ruins, and other parks. We took buses a lot of the time because I managed to have some rude Vancouverites bump me off the side of the sidewalk and my ankle twisted and I don't know if it's bruised or I pinched a nerve but it hurts like an SOB and it was hard for me to try and hobble 8 blocks , that AND we wanted to take advantage of the $19.00 tickets we purchased for the West Coast Express to get into Vancouver that were good for the day on all GVRD transit. (Dang I wanted to take the Seabus). The day ended at ten after 3pm at Burrard station where those of us who took the train headed back to Mission. Long day--but fun all in all.
I was supposed to go out tonight. I did not as work decided to change my shift to 11:30am start and not 1pm. They didn't bother to call me to inform me--they're lucky I stopped by work as I was visiting my mom at hers. I checked to see my end time and saw they changed my start time. Apparently the fact that I had plans tonight doesn't matter and a ton of markdowns came in so I have to work it. Uh, yeah sure. I was too tired and sore to argue but I tell you my blood was boiling.
So I just had a nice bath. Typed up some Excel worksheets for precipitation and discharge totals for Tofino. I got an email back from Environment Canada with precipitation totals for Tofino from Nov 2004-Sept 2006. They aren't available online and normally you have to pay she says but she didn't know the cost so she gave them to me free. (SWEET!)
Oh life is good...oh yes.
I have a date possibly this week with a guy I know from UCFV and I am going to a Canucks game with another guy next Monday. Should be a lot of fun. Maybe a third date from somewhere? Three's a charm...
