Betty Suarez, from "Ugly Betty", is a Latina girl in her early twenties living in Queens and dreaming of writing for a magazine. When Mode Magazine comes calling, hiring her as the Editor In Chief's Assistant, it sounds like the job of her dreams - until Betty finds out she was hired so that the Editor In Chief wouldn't sleep with his assistant for once. Betty is different in absolutely every way from your typical "Mode Girl" - and watching her survive, navigate, and succeed in her new career really struck a chord in me. She's smart and she's driven, she's kind and compassionate, and even when she falters and makes mistakes, she's wonderful to watch. Because she doesn't just know who she is - she's happy with who she is. She has her share of career obstacles, family troubles, friendship problems, and relationship drama, but she always believes in herself. Betty may be fictional, but she's also incredibly real. She's the girl that gave me the strength to pursue my career when my situation wasn't ideal; she's the girl that taught me never to give up. The girl that showed me it's okay to be myself.

I tried to select songs that not only felt like they fit Betty's personality and her journey over the four seasons of "Ugly Betty", but also seemed like songs Betty herself would want to listen to. She's positive and upbeat, and I'd like to think that she'd enjoy the songs I picked for her. I hope you do too. :)
