Okay, so here's the deal - I haven't posted anything in here since September. C'est la vie, I suppose, when you work the type of internship that I did. But now that's over and I'm back! My interests have changed a bit, so who knows what'll be posted here in the upcoming months. Keep an eye out!
Right now, though, I thought it'd be fun to do the Year In Review Fic Meme that was floating around my flist for awhile. I didn't write as much as I would have liked last year - I have a good 15,000 words sitting on my computer unfinished - but I liked the idea of the meme, so I'm doing it anyway. :)
In 2010, I wrote 44,954 words in 3 fandoms.

So it looks like this year, I wrote 44,954 words! Granted, I am a little bitter that I didn't actually hit 45,000. Way to fail, self! But that's actually kind of impressive, given my complete lack of focus on things most of the time. And I am so, so pleased that people actually took the time to read what I wrote. :)
01. Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?:
More, actually! I never really sit down at the beginning of the year and plan how much I'm going to write, but looking at the number, that's more than I thought I'd written. And if only I'd actually finished more of the things that are sitting on my hard drive, I would have had a higher number, too! Oh well. :)
02. What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?:
Inception, I suppose! The movie clearly wasn't out in January, and at that point, I didn't give a shit about Joseph Gordon-Levitt or Ellen Page. But I saw the light, clearly, and wrote a surprising amount about them in a short time.
03. What's your own favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?:
That's probably
prison of memories (Inception, Arthur/Ariadne friendship). That one started writing itself while I was trying to sleep one night, and I just remember it flowing out of me so easily. It's rare when that happens, and I just love that feeling. That's the one I'll sometimes go back and read and think, "Damn. Good job, self."
04. Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?:
I'm not sure! I didn't actually end up writing a proper threesome, which for me would have been a nice risk to take. They still scare me. /o\ But other than that, I wrote some het porn! That was a risk, since girlparts scare me sometimes. But I think I managed pretty well!
05. Do you have any fanfic goals for the New Year?:
Mostly I'd like to tackle some fic for the Social Network fandom! Be it RPF or not, I'm not sure yet. I just love the actors, the characters, and the story, and I think there's some wicked angst there that I'd love to sink my teeth into. And as is always my goal for every year, write a real threesome!
06. From my past year of writing, what was...
My Best Story:
Mostly I'm avoiding repeating stuff, so I'm going to say
varen (American Idol, Kris/Adam) instead. This one was a new style for me and it was a lot of fun, trying to balance and reorder the sentences. I really do like how it came out. :)
Story Most Underappreciated by the Universe:
I'm going to answer
prison of memories (Inception, Arthur/Ariadne friendship) again. I mean, it wasn't Arthur/Eames, and it was more of a gen story than anything else. But I wrote it off a quote from Mysterious Skin, and I'm just so proud of this one. I feel like it's one of the best examples of my writing, and out of all the Inception fic I wrote, this got the least amount of comments. Baw.
Most Popular:
Based on comments and Delicious saves, that would be
please, please, please let me get what i want (Inception, Arthur/Ariadne), which is surprising! But it seems like the A/A shippers really do like them some porn. :P And that's cool, because this was my first het porn writing experience!
Most Fun:
Without a doubt,
you owe me (Inception, Arthur/Eames). I'm not an Arthur/Eames shipper, but this fic was born out of an errant comment at the kink meme that offered a billion Al Gore dollars for a blowjob. Arthur/Eames came to my head immediately and I just couldn't resist! It's short and playful, and I had a blast with it.
Most Disappointing:
Probably
just listen (American Idol, Kris/Adam). This was my longest fic, and it was written for a Big Bang. And it just... I don't know. I'm not sure it came out the way I wanted it to. And don't get me wrong, there are moments of the story that I really like. But overall, I'm not that thrilled with it, and it didn't get the best reader reception, either. So I don't know. Whatever.
Most Sexy:
Ha!
be careful what you wish for (Inception, Eames/Ariadne/Arthur), without a doubt. I mean, not only was it fingering porn, it was public fingering porn. While someone else watched and got off on it. Oh, me. Gotta love that most of it was written while on a public bus, too. But I mean, just look at this:
Eames’ hand is moving now, stroking inside of her, the rhythm beginning to increase in speed, and she can’t help it - her hips rotate against them just the tiniest bit. Her gaze stays focused on Arthur, terrified that he’ll figure everything out at any second.
“I’m fine,” she insists, and has to choke back a gasp when Eames’ thumb flicks at her clit.
“Okay,” Arthur agrees, his tone skeptical. The conversation around them resumes, Yusuf asking Saito for advice on free trade, but Arthur’s gaze doesn’t leave her face. He knows something’s off.
Between Arthur’s stare and Eames’ fingers, she burns.
Pure filth, I tell you. Pure filth.
Story With The Single Sweetest Moment:
It was hard to pick - I actually don't think my fluffy fics have the sweetest things in them, not always. There were a couple lines in angsty fics that just make me ache with how sweet they are. But I'm finally going to settle on an excerpt from
hold onto my sweater, boy (American Idol, Kris/Adam).
Kris doesn’t quite know what to say to that. He’s never been good with words unless they’re in the form of lyrics, and he’s pretty sure that if he tried to type out an email response, tried to describe how lonely it is coming home to an empty house and a cold bed every night, he’d end up sounding like a lovesick moron. Or possibly a girl.
So instead, Kris flicks on his webcam and smiles as the flash goes off. Then he attaches the photo of himself in Adam’s sweater to an email, with the words “i’m still in your sweater” as a caption, and sends it off into the night.
"Holy crap, that's *wrong*, even for you" story:
Ha. Ha. That would be
a kiss on the neck (American Idol, Kris/Edward Cullen!Adam). Written for a kink bingo, it has Adam Lambert sort of kind of roleplaying as Edward Cullen and getting Kris off to ice cubes and biting. I don't know. I still cannot believe I wrote this.
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:
I... honestly don't know. I guess I might say
mombasa (Inception, Arthur/Eames), because it was the first time I'd ever really tried to consider Eames' background. It got me thinking about what kind of past the two might have had, and I guess that for once, it got me seeing how Arthur/Eames might just be possible.
Biggest Surprise:
I WROTE HET PORN! \o/ I was all slash all the time for ages! Het porn scared me! And now look how far I've come. :D
Most Unintentionally Telling:
There's a scene in
only fools rush in (American Idol, Kris/Adam) where Kris is sick and Adam takes it upon himself to take care of Kris, and he even kisses Kris despite the fact that he's all germy. And then Adam gets sick and tells Kris that kissing him was totally worth it. Which, yes, I stole from How I Met Your Mother. But I just think that's so sweet and I want that IRL, okay?
So there we go! It was a decent year for fic for me, I think. I think my goal this year is to write & post at least one thing every month. That's something, right? :)
