Savage Worlds: Slipstream, a setting based on the science fiction pulp serials, when rockets crashed more than landed, when a sword was a prefect companion to a ray-gun, when planets only had one kind of terrain, and when everybody knew where their jet-pack was.
But they still flew in the rocket-sled, because it was easier to film.
I've been waiting for Slipstream for two years now, I've seen it disappear from catalogues as the wait got longer, and then just recently, re-appear. I can think of few settings, few genres, that deserve to be Savaged more than pulp SF, so much of the Fun, Fast, Furious theme of SW shoes perfectly into the action-intense cinematic genre of SF pulp.
Slipstream hasn't disappointed. The setting, the extra-dimension Slipstream filled with the ejecta from our galaxy's black holes (it doesn't make sense, but it is very pulp-y) is home to hundreds of planetoids, each one of them with an atmosphere, and 1g gravity.
The region is ruled by an evil Queen, who uses her high-tech armies to keep everyone else primitive, and uses her villainous wiles to keep the many factions at each others' throats.
The book presents us with a handful of races, including humans, and rules for making an "instant alien" (and I suppose anyone wanting to run "Savage Worlds: Alien Legion" should take note of that). We get new edges and hindrances. Key among those is the Heroic hindrance, which can 1) not count against your limit of Hindrances; and 2) allows you to buy any non-Legendary edge. The cost? You can't ignore a plea for help. There is good and evil in the Slipstream, and you're declaring yourself on the side of Good.
Vehicle and Space-ship rules are included. And, of course, we get a Plot-point adventure. Unlike many, this one is set out by Season and Episode, to better reflect the nature of the serials that inspired it.
Am I running it? I don't know. But it's in the "considering" pile.
