This is not a review, this is a "talk about a game that has some review-like qualities."

You have to credit Michael Fiegel and Jerry Grayson. They took something like "Greeks in Spaaaaace!" and turned it into a wonderful RPG, HellasOf course the Hellenes aren't actually Greeks. But the authors try to capture the essence of Greek culture and ( Read more... )

I picked it up at GenCon, it looks like it's going to be a really cool game.

I can run it, but I want to play it too. Can we convince Tammy to run it as well?

I suspect not. She's a player, not a runner, although why she wanted the book (other than for the fact that it's beautiful!) is another matter. Who knows, Steve? Maybe you'll be able to talk her into running it after all! :)

I was going to post an entry about Helllas at some point, Doug, but you've done a really good job of saying what I would have. So I'm going to direct folks to your blog entry. Doesn't mean I won't post something up later, but between the bug I've got and all the "coming home" stuff that needs to be done, echhh.

I haven't even gotten to Desolation yet! So many rules systems, so little time, and I still have to get ready to run 4e this weekend.

I'm actually looking forward to hearing what you have to say about Desolation, to be honest. While I've been using the playtest rules to run the game for the last eight months or so, I'm currently about halfway through the book (in the Magic chapter), and am finding it to be an excellent read, a game full of potential for all sorts of adventures that I have in mind, and am looking forward to stuff.

Hellas is stil on my reading list, even though it beckons to me... :)

How can a game about legendary Greeks pass up someone named Helen? :)

You can only play if you promise to not mock me ferociously for mispronouncing Greek words.

Mild mockery is, of course, still allowed.

You're welcome. The book is beautifully done, and the ideas are a nice mix of classical mythology and the original. Any compliments were earned.

Sounds awesomely cool, combining the classical elements with sci fi, like in the novel Ilium.

Well, I'm not promising you the "Illium RPG" ... the work at keeping the multiple past and present narratives straight would melt my brain.

The site linked above contains an extensive pdf preview, with pages right from the rulebook, and a set of quick start rules with a sample adventure if you want to have a better look for yourself.
