(no subject)

I have a coworker who wears bow ties every day. Half the time, the colors don't even work all that well with the rest of his clothes, but no one cares, because of the novelty of seeing someone as young as 32 wearing a bow tie.

Every time someone comments on how much they like it, I use it as an excuse to agree,

Sometimes coworkers give him a hard time about dressing like an old man and once a customer was mad at him and kept calling him "Bow Tie" in this withering tone. Most people react favorably to his accessory choice, though.

The other day, two snarky customers were camped at the desk beside me for an extended period. Bow Tie walked by and gave them his usual, friendly greeting, and they beamed, "Hiiii!" in return, but the second he was out of earshot, one of them growled, "He should lose the bow tie." The other snorted, "You read my mind."

And it annoyed me to a perhaps unreasonable degree.

I went on to listen to them make scornful little comments about several of my nicest coworkers' appearances. And I heard them muttering when I got up to get something across the room, so I'm sure I wasn't spared from their caustic wit, either. I was wearing my (much shorter) Fourth Doctor's scarf that day, so. Easy target. Adam bought it for me and even he thinks it's ugly.

These were middle-aged women, by the way, acting like fourteen-year-olds at the mall. So, seriously? Get bent, ladies.
