Yesterday was once-weekly "Get Off Campus To Maintain Sanity" day. On this particular occasion, I woke up and immediately rolled out of bed, put clothes on, and headed into the Illadelph with Liz and her friends from home (Ona and John) for "Family Day." So we went to the Rodin Museum (pictured above), and walked around Rittenhouse a little (and saw lots of indie kids lined up for the R5 Productions anniversary show, and a lot of indie kids just kind of wandering around looking artsy and cute, and then the Minnesotans went back to school and I split off with Gina and Joanna, and we walked around some more, and THEN met up with Gina's dad, who had (essentially) flown into Philly for dinner. And HERE, duckies... HERE is where the day gets wonderful. He had made reservations for us at Tangerine, a restaurant in the Old City part of town which I'd walked by before but been too intimidated to walk into. (The website will give you some sense of why; it's been listed as one of Philly's ten best restaurants [which is saying something]; it's interior-designed to the gills; all of the waitstaff are extraordinarily attractive, etc. etc.) Anyway, so we go to this restaurant, and Bill's just like "Get whatever you want!" So we do. What we want includes: four appetizers, three entrees, two bottles of wine, and one delicious baklava accompanied by coffee. It was, sans doute, the best meal I've eaten in months. I spent the rest of the evening in a pleasant state of food coma; I was so perfectly, comfortably full of delicious things that I could not imagine putting anything else in my stomach, but I went and hung out with some drunk kids and watched George's new band play (they were great), then came back home and watched "Wet Hot American Summer" and washed dishes and went to bed far, far too late. But so it goes. Anyway, it was a thoroughly enjoyable evening, and it's been a fairly pleasant lazy Sunday, including some (but not too much) homework and a lot of lounging around in bed getting Not Much Done (like I'm doing right now).
And now, it's time for me to get back to reading about racial representation in film, so that I can go to dinner and go hear Pat Buchanan talk about "Where the Right Went Wrong," (there's a big controversy on campus now surrounding his visit, and the amount of money we paid him to come here), and then possibly play basketball for the first time in four years and definitely do more reading, and then to bed and then the week starts, which means that I am only FOUR DAYS AWAY from my flight home and six away from my birthday fete in Northampton with the Turner and Freeman famiglie/all of the women of Smith College. I am excited about that.
