Another Philadelphia Story!

May 09, 2005 21:26

IN WHICH: Gina, Joanna, and Liz wake up at a ridiculously early 8:55 (well, Liz does, anyway, in order to wake the other ones up so that we can actually LEAVE by 9:35), walk to the train station, get on a train, go to philadelphia, go to reading terminal market, and get strawberry nutella crêpes for breakfast!

So, remember last time when we tried to go see Dali at the museum but couldn't because the tickets were sold out? Well, this time we planned ahead, and made it in! This is Gina and Jojo standing in line to see the exhibit (which was great, by the way)

I couldn't take pictures IN the exhibit (although I tried, and a scary security guard woman threatened to kick me out), but once we got out into the rest of the museum, I could! The whole thing wasn't open (because apparently it isn't on Mondays?), but the modern and contemporary art wing and the 19th century European wing (read: Impressionism, yum!) were, so I saw (and took pictures) of Monets and Miros and Picassos... in short, everything from Pisarro...

...to Cézanne...

...to Rothko.

Then, we played around outside for a while in the gazebo without railings, on a cliff overlooking the Schuylkill and the old waterworks...

...before jumping back on the Philly Phlash and heading back downtown.

Joanna needed to get food before she went back to school to do work, so we went to Chinatown to get her tofu and brown rice and vegetables or something else equally hippielicious.

In Chinatown, we got bubbletea and cherries (two different places) and went to a stationery store where we saw this sign, which I thought was hiLARious at the time.

THEN (best part of the day), Gina and I went to South Philly to the Italian Market (aka diBruno's Market, because everything else was closed) and got bread and salami and sheep cheese and goat cheese and olives and pastries and general amazingnessssssss and then brought it back to school and ate it. Here's a picture of the mural right next to the store:

And so ends a wondrous day of exploring the Illadelph and eating amazing food. Hooray!
