I have honestly never enjoyed a road trip by myself as much as I enjoyed this one to West Virginia. The whole trek was around 16 hours, but I made it in two days. Thursday I went to Henderson, Tennessee to visit my step-brother Blake for a night. We had a great time chatting it up in their coffee shop, eating sushi (taking quail egg shots!), and walking around Target. His girlfriend, Sarah, joined us in Target and then we went to Steak and Shake for more chatting. I'm glad we're step-siblings...which still seems weird to me, but I think if it weren't for that, we'd have lost touch, and he's such a fun guy. We have really parallel lives too, it's kind of strange. I had a great time with him and Sarah and I hope it won't be too much longer before I get to see them again!

Friday, I spent a total of 12 hours driving my way across Tennessee, up through Virginia and finally into West Virginia. It was at about 10 hours of driving when I officially I hit the "insanity" point. It was right around then that I turned on some Ace of Base and started to seriously rock out. Needless to say, it was amazing.
When I finally did make it to Shepherdstown, I got the brilliant idea in my head that I would find Ashley's apartment on my own and surprise her. I drove down the street, but couldn't spot it, so I resorted to calling her. She didn't pick up the first few times and I got a bit frantic, but she called back and I learned that she and Joel thought I was coming the next night, not Friday, so it was still a pleasant surprise for her that I was there!

I brought nice weather with me and we've been lucky enough to enjoy walking around town. I brought the school's camera and my new camera so that she and I could have photographic adventures and I think my creative juices are already starting to flow again. Harding has been so stifling lately and I just haven't been doing any personal artsy photography like I used to. I definitely needed this.

Shepherdstown is in the far eastern tip of West Virginia, so we've been into Maryland twice. I'm always so excited to visit new states, and it's always so much more fulfilling have driven the whole way myself. Road trips are so satisfying!
I called my friend Ben who lives in Philadelphia and found out it was only 3 hours away from here, so I think Friday, instead of starting my trek back, I'll head to Philly for a night and then leave Saturday for Nashville and go back to Searcy on Sunday. That way I'll have driven all the way to Philadelphia and visited another new place!

This road trip and break from life has been just what I needed. It makes my heart well up with joy being here with Ashley and Joel, making tea and being creative in her little apartment with her adorable little cat Aki. I have no idea how we first came up with the idea for me to visit, but it was definitely the right choice in every way shape and form.
I'll keep updating throughout the week, as I'm sure it will hold many adventures and lots of photographic fun!
