Explanation of Why God Exists
This is one of the best explanations of why God allows pain and
suffering that I have seen. It's an explanation other people
will
understand.
A man went to a barbershop to have his hair cut and his beard
trimmed.
As the barber began to work, they began to have a good
conversation.
They talked about all kinds of things.
When they eventually touched on the subject of God, the barber
said: "I
don't believe that God exists."
"Why do you say that?" asked the customer.
"Well, you just have to go out in the street to realize that God
doesn't
exist. Tell me, if God exists, would there be so many sick
people? Would
there be abandoned children? If God existed, there would be
neither
suffering nor pain. I can't imagine a loving God who would allow
all of
these things."
The customer thought for a moment, but didn't respond because he
didn't
want to start an argument!
The barber finished his job and the customer left the shop. Just
after
he left the barbershop, he saw a man in the street with long,
stringy,
dirty hair and an untrimmed beard. He looked dirty and unkempt.
The customer turned back and entered the barber shop again and
he said
to the barber: "You know what? Barbers do not exist."
"How can you say that?" asked the surprised barber. "I am here,
and I am
a barber. And I just worked on you!"
"No!" the customer exclaimed. "Barbers don't exist because if
they did,
there would be no people with dirty long hair and untrimmed
beards, like
that man outside."
"Ah, but barbers DO exist! What happens is, people do not come
to me."
"Exactly!"- Affirmed the customer. "That's the point! God, too,
DOES
exist! What happens, is, people don't go to Him and do not look
for
Him. That's why there's so much pain and suffering in the
world."
If you think God exists, send this to other people---If you
think God
does not exist, delete it!
...what the fuck.
I'm not complaining about the email itself... but...
"if you think God does not exist, delete it!"
I'm sorry, but I personally don't like being guilted into sending fucking forwards. Especially when not everyone on my address book shares the same viewpoints as me.
Not to mention the fact that I'm not into the whole "let's talk about God thing"...
not many people realize it, but I have waaaay different beliefs than the people at my church.
I don't think we should force things like this on other people.
why?
because it makes them unhappy.
...if we're supposed to be "good" people, why would you intentionally make someone unhappy?
Also... I don't think it's right to blame suffering on those who are going through it.
if that's the reason, then why do Christians suffer to?
Why do pastors and priests get sick?
Are they saying that if these abandoned children would simply look for God, their parents would change their minds and, for lack of a better phrase, "take them back"?
on this subject of abandoned children, is it the kids who need to look for God, or the parents?
What if the parents are Christians, and are experiencing a bad time trying to find money... and they put their child up for adoption, knowing their kid will have a better life? is that nessicarily a bad thing?
What about all the people in the world with AIDS?
especially those in Africa?
the majority were born with AIDS...
are they dying because they didn't look for God before they even had the chance to?
or are we going back to beliefs in the old testament saying that they're sick because of their parents' sins?
if that's the case, why would God punish the children and not the sinner?
...and I thought God loved us and would forgive us no matter what?
What happened to that?
Did God just get pissed to the point that he was pushed too far and decided upon "cursing" random innocent children?
I have tons more questions, but I have already wasted your time...
post if you know the answer to any of them...
sorry for the long post, btw.
