HYDE LA 2019
Hyde is still an inspiration. The May 2019 show in LA was awesome. It was 3 months ago, but this was a fb post.
It was beautiful to be among the scuzzy spirit of rock in Lost Angeles. The Skid row venue was appropriate. LA is a spiritual wasteland, I call it Jurassic Park.
Random thoughts
The show pushed forth the new songs from the solo non-Vamps album ANTI. Many of them are spectacular, cascading glimmery blasts of self interrogation and assertion, often together. I loved FAKE DIVINE. You fall from yourself, and have to find it again, but the divide between you and that 'yourself' can be all the things you never should have become. Maybe that's waht I was going through when I first heard it haha. The inward and outward are what affirms the trust I have in HYDE as a songwriter. Not all of them are amazing though. Lion sounds like a cheesy limp bizkit retread. Uh someone should have laughed before it was recorded. I also take issue with the import of the song OUT- if Hyde is confused about American gun violence as he stated in interviews, its because JP has a very different social climate and educational system that never taught them JP was pacified after WWII, a violent imperial culture was tamed and kept under tight control. Humans default is toward negativity and unbridled envy hate and greed spark people to do extreme things in America, as such things sparked Japan into warfare and massacres of Chinese (see The Rape of Nanjing by Iris Chang.). Individual actions are of course individual. Without a second amend. the US would fall to radical usurpers. I digressed. The cover of Duran's Ordinary World is vocally superior to Le Bon's but the guitar part falls short of Warrren's original. There is no ordinary world and the aggressive style of the current guitarist works in it's way. The LA show was gritty and blasting of a new feeling. It's as if HYDE has embraced this period of life wthout prisoners. Its his Wild Bunch time. It was a worthy show.
I took some clips but the company had youtube remove them. I am sort of sad lol. They were meant to support the artist. If he doesnt want my support, well fuck off. Haha
I am ultimately ambivalent about famous people. If they make something that sparks and connects and soars to the universe though, then that is what they should be doing.
