Happy Birthday Zigis for Thursday, though you still haven't looked at my sculpture and I will hassle you.
Your birthday was an excellent excuse to celebrate mediocrity, especially when it fell on our day off. Hurrah! And so we went to AGNSW to see the Archibald Prize, where we also met up with my friend Sach from SCA. I liked how you two got along together. Thank you again for paying for our entry fees!
Then it was off to ArtSpace and boy, is Monika Tichacek's The Shadowers a fittingly grotesque work. It was like an endurance sport for me to watch the entire thing without shielding my eyes from the horror and the obscenities... Like a nightmare I didn't want to wake up from. Creepy McCreep! So I sat there cringing and flinching instead. I also wished I could dance like the funny biker woman from The Kingpins' piece, but then I remembered that I could dance better... Anyone could really, she was really jerky and random eighties.
Dinner with Zig's family... Champagny and fun, lots of chatting and feeling welcomed.
Friday night, I went to TinSheds Gallery for a collaborative exhibition called Minimal Approach... Concrete Tendencies which also featured my lecturer, Margaret Roberts. Both Sach and I disliked minimalism, but we went to support her and to suck up :P Oh also for the free food and booze (yucky cheap red wine!!)
After that, we went roaming the city for some more drinking, first to Manning which was arse then to many other places before we found ourselves in Oxford street again. Wiess Bars at the Colombian were so delicious. Mojitos at Stonewall were not... They got the recipe wrong, so I was told.
We met a girl at Stonewall, she worked for Reeboks, liked Sach's Reeboks and she was very pretty. I forgot her name. She came up to us and reminded that we were actually in a gay club. Oh, we knew. We had to wait half an hour for a taxi at Town Hall, but not before meeting and chatting with bouncers from a strip club (also waiting for a taxi home) and they yelled and threatened people pushing in the queue, and promptly herded Sach and I into a taxi they stopped, whilst waving a warm farewell. People can be so cool sometimes.
Saturday morning! Went to see the Bald Archy Prize at the QVB, and we almost liked it more than the Archibald. We walked through Myer, and I was asked if I wanted to be sprayed with something Tommy Hilfiger. I said a rushed "No thank you :)" then realised that I've met this Joe who was now attacking me for refusing his offer of eau de toilette. He doesn't remember me of course, and now threatened to spray my companion. I said please, he won't mind, to which he laughed. We got talking and he asked for our names and our star signs and we got free samples of True Star. Score! He told us to come back an visit him sometime, and believe me we will :D
