Orientated. Finally, yes.

Mar 11, 2005 20:53

Been very busy this week, what with the orientation being almost completely unneccessarily long and (almost) pointless and the 5 o'clock mornings and the missed buses and late trains (actually I only missed one bus, and that was because of a late train.)

I was friendless and bored for much of the first 2-3 days. Today was especially nice though, I finally got to meet everyone in my Sculpture class, and yesterday within 20 minutes, I found people that I was capable of associating with. This is including Chloe Macdougall who is sister of Nick MacDougall, whom I remember fondly as Glasses-Boy, one of Ruth's many theatre buddies.

I've decided that:

1. "Snooty" and "arty-farty" characteristics shouldn't be allowed to exist together in the same person.

2. Making new friends with quiet strangers is difficult.

3. To make a batch of new friends, it is necessary to put away the quiet strangers together in a relatively cosy room. Leave to rise for 40 minutes. Try to sift through the dry ingredients first for any stubborn lumps and people.

Fun Facts at SCA:

1. They are 136 first-years, including myself.

2. There are 34** males in first year That's exactly 25%.
(**Only approximate because there are undecipherable androgynous/foreign names.)

3. There are 18 out of the 136 people doing Sculpture as their major, including myself.

4. I met a guy in Sculpture. He looks like David Bowie. He was wearing a blue shirt with the word 'David' embroidered on the pocket. Needlessly said, I thought, what a coincidence, his name's actually David.
Role call! His name was actually Dash. I later found out that he does David Bowie impersonations. In that same 10 second frame, I also learnt that he was actually born with the name Natasha. What a champ.

5. When a group of SCA students gathers, we always seem to make time to express our seemingly newly-developed adverseness towards COFA.

6. SCA used to be an asylum with "quiet rooms" that resemble prisons, underground dungeons and abestos. We were told that they used to "rid" the babies of the women that were kept there, but the story was later denied by Colin, our sculpture technician.

7. Today was Colin's 50th birthday. We went to his surprise birthday party.

That's about it. I'm honestly too tired to remember... I hate waking up at 5 o'clock, especially when I don't need to. But I actually find catching the train that early fun and interesting, interesting to see that many people awake when the sky is still dark and bruised.
