Job Hunting

Apr 27, 2007 18:41

I must say this process is going remarkably well, and my self-confidence is soaring as a result. I got my resumes nailed down last week, I've got several really solid references lined up, and my first interview today, with a temp agency that seems to have a lot of really good openings, went *incredibly* well.

I thought I'd done absolutely terribly on the skills tests and was feeling quite humbled by the process, and certain I'd be eliminated from the competition as a result of my scores - but apparently I actually scored well above 90% on them both, where the agency average tester is around 65%, and I type almost 25 words per minute faster than their average!

It was so cool to speak to a recruiter who *gets* my skill level, too, and also recognizes the huge base of readily transferable softer skills I have, and how clearly I fit at the executive admin (and even actual management level) rather than much below it on the admin food chain as a result.

Just updating the resumes is an eye-opener, because even I had forgotten a lot of my own accomplishments and skills, and I'm really glad I still have all of the old ones around to remind me. Then watching the recruiter's eyes just about pop out of his head as he started to read the thing, and his excitement grow as he proceeded, was *immensely* rewarding and validating. He didn't even balk at the fact that I included *no* dates for *anything*.

Feeling down? Update your resume and surprise yourself with all of the good things about yourself that you have likely forgotten.
