"Teacher! You have long legs and a short body!"
So... how do you react to that? Is that a compliment? Long legs are good! But short body? I have no idea....
I think of all the days I teach, Wednesday is the worst. I have 2 optional classes that are free for the students, but there's just no substance to them. The lower level class has 3 hours to read 2 paragraphs and answer a few very easy questions, and then the older class has the same amount of time, but they have to read 8, 3-sentence paragraphs. So they finish everything in 20 minutes, and then I have to figure out how to use a book of words and pictures to get them to practice speaking English.
The VP of the school told me to have them repeat the words over and over. I wouldn't mind that idea if the book didn't have "Don't Repeat! Don't Study! Just Imagine & Listen." right on the cover.... EVERY SINGLE TIME they pull out their books, it's a chorus of elementary school students shouting, "TEACHER! TEACHER! DON'T REPEAT! DON'T STUDY!" How do you tell a group of hyperactive munchkins that they have to repeat despite the cover saying not to? Furthermore, I am completely convinced that my elementary students speak better English than the VP does...
Despite Wednesdays being so ridiculous, I'm still enjoying all of my other classes! Let's hope it stays that way =p
Last week, I had given one of the girls in my class a stick of gum, and this week she gave me a candy bar =D Yay! I haven't eaten any of it yet, because I think I've been eating too much recently... I'm really afraid of putting on weight since everything is so cheap here. It's also very hard to judge the calorie content of foods I haven't really eaten before =S I need to start exercising in the morning or something! I'm definitely on my feet a lot, but I need to make sure I continue to lose weight rather than gain it. I'll probably buy myself a bathroom scale or something tomorrow so that I can keep an eye on things. I'll definitely have a better idea of what I can and can't eat that way. Until then, my candy bar will just have to wait in my fairly empty fridge.
P.S.
I bought a headband at one of the department stores the other day and DEFINITELY spent more than I would usually on one. It was just so cute, and I didn't really bring any hair accessories, so I decided to splurge and treat myself!
