So the Korean word for water 물 (mul) has a rolled L at the end... I can roll Rs but it seems I fail (quite epically actually) at rolling Ls :( I tried asking for water yesterday night, "물주세요 (mul chuseyo)" but they thought I said mu which is a pickled turnip dish that was already on the table...
ME: I would like some water please
THEM: But you still have turnip on your table...
So from now on I'm going to carry a notepad with me so that I can write down what I want :(
As far as writing goes, I know the majority of the hangul by now and I have a cheat sheet in my wallet (two actually) so that I can order food and ask for things properly. I just need to start learning some vocabulary! (and learn how to pronounce it properly it would seem...)
Yesterday was my first two classes. Both were Reading and Writing classes, but at two different levels. The kids are adorable and they're very small classes (3 in one and 2 in the other). It's mostly because this branch is a very new one (it's only a few months old) so the class sizes are growing quickly and they hope to add new classes soon.
This week I'm scheduled for 10 classes (30 hr work week), but that's because I'm covering 2 for someone who won't be able to teach them. Next week I'll be down to 8 classes (24 hrs). It's nice being on salary! =D
After class, some of the other instructors took us out for food and lots of drinking. I learned some fun soju games to play =) One of the girls picked up the tab for everyone which I think is amazing. From what I heard though, the senior staff will take turns picking up the tab, so tonight when we all go out again either we'll all split the tab, or someone else will pick up the whole thing. Since there are a lot of Westerners in the group, there will probably be more tab splitting than a normal Korean group would have (at least that's my guess, I'll let you know if I was right or not later =p). I'm going to try not to drink as much today though! o_o
The two classes I have are exactly the same (same class, same level) only the students are different ages, so I only have to prep for one class =D
Other than that, I'm definitely still losing weight, but I need to get a scale and still keep tabs on what and how much I'm eating. Food is DEFINITELY a lot healthier here, but that doesn't mean that you can't go overboard! And they really seem to like their salt, so I have to watch out for that too.
