Summer work: Bit of frustration here, I've been working on getting the papers for the visa so I can work in the states in a week, but there's been so much beurocracy(oh, you lived in pembroke for 8 months? It'll take an extra 4-8 weeks for your police records check, then..) most of this is just problems on my own end, failure to read all the instructions properly the first time, but it's still just little things eating away at me. Otherwise things seem ok, the application is in the mail, being couriered to the correct folks, and they should have it back early next week, with me leaving on a bus for maine almost as soon as it's in my hot little hands... seems I do this dissapearing trick a lot... delays, delays, delays... gone. maybe I should work on that.
Appartmentage: Seems to be going well, for next year. I've been talking with the super of the building I want to get into, and it seems I'm in like flint.(whoever flint was, apparently he was good at getting into things.) He said he'd only heard good things about me(who the hell did he ask? This is the first time I've talked to him...) and he even asked me about one of the first years for oda/adnat, who might be moving in across the hall and listed me as one of their references.(good to know that was coming...)
anywho, I'm supposed to head back up to Pembroke to sign lease papers on Tuesday... so I'm thinking I'll try and go up monday afternoon or something, get grades sorted on tuesday morning, sign the papers, and head back to Ottawa again on the afternoon bus. we'll see how that goes. huzzah for not doing SOMETHING last minute... :P
Camping: I was up in Algonquin Park, starting last sunday, until wednesday, mid-day... it was a really good time, though pretty soggy... it rained every day, and every night. virtually impossible to dry things out, since we had to pack up camp every morning before the sun was above the treetops(which would be the only way stuff might have dried, even if it hadn't been raining) but the kids were fun to paddle with overall, and no one managed to seriously injure themselves,(a couple students tried to take up whittling... one or two managed to cut themselves, one kinda deeply. He might need stitches, but we wern't gonna rush the trip on his account.) and everyone stayed reasonably dry. it was a neat experience, especially working with a former teacher and one of my classmates as co-trip leaders, instead of the teacher as a teacher. Also in talking to a teacher who was new to the school, I think I got a better idea of where I might go with my education after graduating ODA...
I think I've been talked into going into teachers college. I'm saying maybe on this, 'cause I don't relish the idea of having to go to school for at least four more years... two more to get a BA, and then two years of teachers'. not so cool, when I could be out guiding or having fun... but there's fun to be had in university schooling too, and who'd have thought I might get a UNIVERSITY degree. Certainly not me. again, we'll see where this goes and evolves in relation to my plans to travel the world and skip the country to dodge my student loans.
Xavier Rudd: the Rudd concert was the BOMB DIGGITY! Holy murphy brown on a stick, I thought his music was incredible before seeing him live... I've a whole new level of respect for that man. He played a lie-down guitar, didgeridoo, base drum, with the occasional use of some chimes, all at the same time. When he wasn't doing vocals, or hand-drumming, or whatever. the guy is a musical octopus. One man band of wonder. I'd guess there was between 500-750 people in the park to see him play, on a night that called for rain and high winds, but ended up reasonably calm(what winds there were only made cool effects with the smoke machine on stage) and lit by the visible full moon and stars. I'm keeping an eye on Rudd's website, where-ever it is, to see the next time he's in this corner of the world.(or whichever corner I'm in at the time.) 'cause I'd love to see him play again. (THREE didges on stage!) lookup his music, or his albums... it'll probably be in 'world' music 'cause he's an Aussie, but I promise you he's got style, and substance to his music.
That's all I've got for now... more when there's more, on any(but not limited to) the above subjects.
