So I ventured forth with Tara tonight to the movie theatre, and we saw 1408.
It was actually really good. I enjoyed it as a fun Stephen King story movie at first, then I read more about the story and I got a little disappointed because of alot has been added for the movie, but then I got over that when I reminded myself that in order to turn a Stephen King short story into a movie, you kinda have to add stuff to it.
And honestly, this might be my second favourite Stephen King movie. My first, of course, being The Shining.
So I had a little period of being disappointed, but when I looked back on the movie, I realized that it was, in all actuality, a very small, very artsy thriller. And when I looked at it that way, it worked. It really mixed its elements together to a near perfect degree, and ended up using the 90 minutes or so of screen time to its fullest.
The actual scares were few and far between, but the way the 'oh my fuck I have lost my fucking mind' moments were presented was amazing. There's a scene where John Cusack climbs out the window in an attempt to reach another window, and ends up shit out of luck when it comes to locating the window, seeing as it's not there, and the wide shot they use to show us this is so huge and bleak. It's great.
Anyway, the director did a great job of turning a 30 page story into a full length movie, and I dug it.
Also, Harry Potter spoilers were apparently released today. Not that I much care about the series, but I hope they don't end it the way they're saying. That would be lame. And it also goes against what NEEDS to happen at the end of the books.
Now I'm going to go lie down and try not to feel like ass.
edit: The genre of futurepop is growing on me like crazy. Cruxshadows and Bleeding Nature and Apoptygma Berzerk, oh my!!
