the prospectus on historiographical issues is due soon, i figured i needed more sources to refer to. so while i had looked up William G. McLoughlin's "Revivals, Awakenings, and Reforms" (Chicago: University Of Chicago Press, 1980), i hadn't been able to physically read it because someone else had checked it out. so i had reserved it for when it came back, and i just got it tonight. it is an older, worn book but looks full of promising material from what i have seen just in the first half dozen pages. he discusses how awakenings have occurred because it is society's way of coping with changes. i will read this further, but know i already have good quotes to work with for my prospectus.
