State of the Union

First, I'll admit I'm taking all this with some opinion. You'll get fact and a commentary. But I agreed with about 45% of his concept. Nobody can say all of what Bush said will happen, but I'm basing my analysis on that notion, as if he said exactly what he meant to happen. Both parties should be appeased. This analysis is via quote fragments, none of which were altered to change the meaning, scout's honor.

Ideology:
--"Democracies replace resentment with hope...respect their neighbors."
This is true, sure. Unfortunately, we hold a lot of resentment and hate for neighbors. Palestine's elections were completely democratic, and they hate their neighbors, Israel, as a main platform. We are democratic, yet we did not respect Iraq before invasion, and have not respected all nations. This is a nice statement that just isn't true, and it's a damn shame.

--"Liberty is the right and hope of all humanity."
Pic would be proud, no doubt. This is perhaps the best line all night and the most central. This expresses the goal both parties are trying to meet and should push to meet. This summed up the State of the Union goal, and it was very nice to see this said.

--"Put aside partisan politics and get this problem solved."
Again, I agree on all counts. I hate partisan politics, but the speech and audience response itself showed that this can't happen. The resentment, especially by the Democratic Party discussed at one point below, was a bit gross. The Republicans as a party were more well-behaved, but they were in control, so don't let it fool you. This is idealistic crap I wish reverently could occur.

--Bush defines gay marriage as a decline.
No quote on this, and it was as an implication in a long sentence, but it was there. This is one of those things I won't be iffy about. Anybody who defines gay marriage as a decline should make damn well sure they're perfect, because I swear I'll call you a decline and restrict your rights too. If we went with the majority every time, women wouldn't be voting, and blacks wouldn't be free. Good luck with your defense.
