Cataloging artists' books

Jan 31, 2009 16:10

The best part of my work week was cataloging a set of artists' books from a visual design class at another university. I did a batch last year sent by the same instructor.

Out of the 28 pieces (all really creative and impressive), the award for:

Funniest title goes to the student who wrote about her job at a Victoria's Secret lingerie shop: Tales of a Panty Pusher.

Most unique book structure goes to the student who wrote a series of family memories on roundish pieces of yellow paper, crumpled them up like potato chips, and stuffed them into a (fortunately, rinsed out) potato chip bag.

Most original embellishment goes to the student whose finishing technique I got to describe in the catalog record as: "A small rawhide chew toy is incorporated into the binding."
