Jon's Graduation and Other Things

May 26, 2007 16:54

Right! Missed several things happening, so I will go backwards chronologically event-wise, most recent to least recent.

1. My brother Jon got a new guitar! It's an electric acoustic, so he can take it to college to play acoustic and plug it in at home. To find out why Jon acquired said guitar, a gift from my parents, see event number 3.

2. This morning, I got a haircut! I really had waited just a week or so too long, and had become discontent with my hair, as it was not fluffy. I demand fluffiness! And now it's back the way I like it.

3. Jon graduated from high school! This is the big happening, naturally. He and the other roughly two hundred and fifty seniors had their graduation ceremony in the middle school gym. Momdad and I sat on the yellow plastic bleachers with a squillion other people. There was a noisy family with several tiny children - at least one or two of them were children of graduating seniors, and there were four generations there - right in front of us, and they were in the bottom row, so they kept getting up to chase after their toddlers or take pictures or whatever. Dad referred to them as a 'brood'. I, having had four and a half hours of sleep the previous night (see event number 4 - gee, this would make more sense if I'd done it in chronological order. I guess maybe that's why things happen in chronological order in the first place . . . ;P), was highly entertained.

The graduates from Prince Edward County wear bright purple robes (our school colors are purple and gold). They look, as my friend Laura observed, like Barney the dinosaur.

There was a party afterward (counts as part of the same event!) at the Tiger Inn at Hampden Sydney, set up by parents of graduates. There were photos from the kids' younger years everywhere. This was funny, partly because, of the top fifteen or so students academically in Jon's year, something like eight of them have bright red hair, including both co-saludatorians. Just the smart kids. No other Prince Edward classes - just Jon's. A lot of them hung out together as kids. Thus, the photos were full of them and the party looked a bit like a Weasely family reunion :P (mostly, it was the parents of honors students and so on who set it up).

4. The night before, Laura, Alice and I went to "Pirates of the Carribbean 3", as did Jon, Krystle, and Socks. We dressed up as pirates - we had bandanas, makeup, crazy jewelry, and belts worn over long shirts; Jon had an eyepatch, which he came by honestly a few years ago when he was hit in the eye with a branch at YCC; and I drew tattoos on us. Laura was the secret pirate - she didn't dress up, but I drew the 'P' brand on her arm. We all had it. Momdad took pictures of us posing in front of one of Dad's big ocean paintings - it was great! Then, we went to the midnight showing of "Pirates 3". It was the first one to come to our town, and it had a big crowd and sold out - I didn't know until the next day that other towns got the movie earlier! :P Plus, our theater has a sign outside that says 'No Pirates' and has a picture of a pirate with a line through it. We stood next to it, but we didn't have a camera on us.

5. The afternoon before "Pirates 3", Alice, Laura, and I baked cookies! We made double chocolate chip, sugar cookies, and frosted almond cookies. They are all yummy. :)
