So I did something I'm rather proud of last week. I woke up early, when I didn't even have to, and I mean *really* early. I packed some snacks and my camera and mp3 player, I put on my jacket because it was sorta cold out, and I drove out to Pedernales Falls State Park before dawn. I wanted to explore the whole park in a day. I used up my camera memory on the first stop, though. It was pretty much everything I could have hoped for, even if I did quit out by 2:30 in the afternoon. Here's one picture.
The week before that, I took some time between work on Sunday and work on Monday, and I went out to Enchanted Rock with my cousin. My camera, unfortunately, was out of batteries. By the time we reached our primitive campsite, it was getting dark. So we set everything up in the fading light, then we set off to climb the rock in the dark. We got severely lost. We wound up bushwacking our way up Little Rock by mistake first, then climbing the big one. I highly recommend hiking Enchanted Rock after dark (without accepting liability for any likely injuries that might result). The view is just a terrifying black abyss beneath your feet, but if you lay on your back on the slope, the view is nothing but big, bright stars. It's like floating in space, or exploring a really tiny planet with crooked gravity.
In the morning we rushed up Turkey Peak before returning home with enough time for me to shower and go to work.
So if anyone wants to explore some local or local-ish state parks or wilderness areas with me, you know I'm up for it.
