NEED YOUR HELP - Video Project
Hi all,
So here's some random...I'm making a movie/video as a final project for my Conflict Resolution/Peace Studies class, and I could really use some universal input in the form of videos, voice overs, images.
Here's the premise..."What does it mean to engage the Other in a globalized world?"
What I am looking for are clips from all of you (meaning those of you who are able) with the following:
What are your multiple identities? (for example, my own are Mother, Single White Female, Bisexual, Student, Teacher, Government employee, Genealogist, Patriot, Liberal, Pantheist, Daughter, Sister, Cousin, Hamster owner, etc.)
Which of these identities most often get pushed back in the name of your other identities? Meaning, are there parts of yourself that often have to take a back seat to your other interests? For me these are things like being a mother first, a single woman second.
How do you define peace...in your own life, on a global scale? Are they different?
What parts of your identity might have to be compromised to reach the goal of peace?
When you think of Others, meaning those outside of your identified group(s), do you naturally look for similarities or differences?
What do you see as the benefits of engaging the Other when we talk about peace?
So what do I need? Videos if you have the capability. Good quality is of course requested, but I can work with web cam/camera phone footage if needed. Formats I can use are: ASF, AVI, DV-AVI, MOV, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, WMV, or 3GP.
If you don't want to do a video, but would like to contribute a 'voice over' send it in AAC, MP3, WAV, or WMA format.
If you would like to send images of things that evoke a sense of peace in you, please do. Conversely, if you would like to send videos or images of things that have threatened peace where you are, I'll take those too. Examples could be memorials, murals, plaques commemorating conflict where you are, footage/scans of newspaper clippings that had a negative effect on you or your family, nation, etc.
I know this is a tall order, but so many of you are tech savvy and have access to video/sound equipment, you're absolutely my best resource. I have less than two weeks to put this together, so as soon as you are able to send anything my way, I'd appreciate it! You can send files to me via MegaUpload, I can download them from your server, you may be able to email smaller files (like images, etc.)
Some terms I'll be tackling in the film are Alterity, the idea of Other as Enemy, Diddera's Differance, and a touch of Deconstruction. Authors/Philosophers in this course are Trifonas, Salomon & Cairns, Levinas, Wright, Christie & Wagner, Gur-Ze'ev, McCully, Hakvoot, and Tausch, Schmid, & Hewstone. If these mean anything to you and you want to contribute something more academic than personal, I will welcome it.
Chances are this will never be seen by anyone but the grad student teaching this course, but I still want to make it as good as I can...which means intercutting Buffy's impression of Ghandi and Yoda's directive to Unlearn What You Have Learned. It will be epic. Feel free to share the link if desired, as it may be the only public post I ever make again, lol.
