Letter to John and Sil
So I went to the doctor yesterday and had a bunch of x-rays taken and blood drawn.
Turns out, after much arm squeezing and heart hearing, I have high blood pressure overall but higher diastolic pressure on my right side than on my left (R-140/100. L-136/80)...and I have a bruit.
From what I understand a bruit is an abnormal sound heard usually over an artery, a sound made by blood rushing past an obstruction in the vessel. According to the doctor it is possible that the sound/blood pressure problems are being caused by some blockage or by a leak in my abdominal aorta. They think it's either a result of the moto accident or a congenital heart defect that hasn't surfaced until now.
Apparently my right kidney and gallbladder are not doing so hot either but the heart is the heart and heart issues trump all. We will see tomorrow when I go for more tests. Yay for more scanning and, my favorite, more ultrasounding.
At best the bruit will just have to be monitored.
At worst they will have to open me up and fix it.
In other news...I applied to a nanny/doula/home assistant agency in California and, after a phone interview, was offered a job. I have to figure out all this health stuff before I go moving across the country but it was exciting.
More exciting-ness.....I found raw cashews and other raw seeds and nuts at a store near my parents house. I'll be going down to NYC in the next week to see some doctors so I'll try to check out that restaurant that you sent me info about Silvia.
Even more exciting-ness....I found a holistic chiropractor in a town close by. I lost his name and number but I think I remember where his office is.
