Update!

There is a woman in labor right now. When I am not typing I am fanning her face and breathing with her through contractions. She is ready to push though so it's time for me to step aside and let people who have actual medical training work with her.

Today was the first time in three days that I came to the clinic. Three days ago I was in a head-on collision with another motorbike that landed me in the hospital for the better part of the day. I bruised my liver, ribs and kidneys, pulled some muscles, hit my shoulder and hip fairly hard and had a rather ringing concussion. I left the hospital with directions to stay in bed for at least three days and take painkillers and muscle relaxants in order to make resting more comfortable.

Today I was going kind of stir crazy so I got a ride down to the clinic. What a bad day to come though. Today we lost a baby. A mother, Celene, was seven months pregnant and had a c-section. She held her baby for mere moments before it passed away. I had met Celene a few times, touched her belly, got her water and helped her up and down. When I met her I was reading a book about mothers whose baby bulge is too big. It usually means trouble for both the mother and her baby. I knew that Celena was big for only being seven months along but I never imagined she would have her baby then lose it moments later.

It surprises me how much I know about pregnancy and birth at this moment in my life...who could have guessed?

I am taking some time off teaching as I can't exactly stand up for long and am definitely not supposed to be riding around on motorbikes, jostling my already sensative organs.

Life moves on.
This too shall pass.
I keep thinking of something I learned in economics about how everything moves up then down, then up then down again.
Like pregnant ladies bellies, they rise and fall.
