I got a rather late start on the things I really wanted to do, today. I had an errand to run (read: an appointment) down in Kalamazoo this morning, and didn't get back home until after 2:00 pm. I began working on finishing the color for my first real Trangst strip, but it seemed like I couldn't focus at all.
There's a couple things that work quite strongly against me when I'm trying to be productive. First, I have the attention span of a caffeinated ferret. Second, I have internet access. A somewhat distant third is the presence of my very needy cats who like to find any and all methods of interfering with my production process.
I'm hoping to procure a good pair of over-the-ear headphones with a frequency response range (most inexpensive headphones range 15Hz - 20,000Hz, I'm looking more for 10Hz-25,000Hz) with large enough ear cups to envelop my ear without smashing it into my skull. I don't want wireless, and I don't care if they have noise canceling, I just need a decent pair of headphones to help me focus on my art via music. I don't actually *listen* to the music, but I get into a sort of trance and my work flows through me without interruption. But I want nice ones so that when I *do* want to listen to the music, I can really enjoy it ^_~
I'm thinking I may also need to just disable the airport networking on my computers while I'm working so that I'm not tempted to obsessively check Facebook, LiveJournal, Twitter, and my email while juggling a half dozen or so instant messages through Yahoo! and AIM. I hate feeling disconnected from my friends like that, but I really need to minimize distractions while I work.
But hey, I'm fishing for suggestions. Can you guys think of anything else I can do to help me focus on my art and stop procrastinating? I need to draw every day if I'm ever going to get "good enough" to do what I want to do for a living, and doing a comic on a regular basis is the best way I know how. I just need to buckle down and actually DO it.
