X-men fic

Written for 15minuteficlets for the word capricious. I was reminded of a favorite quirk of the comics Scott recently when rereading some of the older comics.

Just Because

"Rack 'em up," Logan said. "Your break this time."

"Giving me a chance to get back into the match?" Scott asked. "How generous of you, Logan." He arranged the balls in the billiard rack with practiced ease.

Logan said, "Hey, it was your idea to shoot some pool, kid." He had beaten Scott soundly in the first two games and then made a couple dumb mistakes in the last game. But he grudgingly admitted Scott could shoot pretty well, dropping a few improbable shots. "I can't help it if your mutant eyes aren't up to snuff."

"Oh really?" Scott said. "We'll see about that."

"Give it your best shot," Logan grinned, clenching his cigar between his teeth.

Scott lined up his break, and then glanced back at Logan. "You might not want to look this time."

"Why's that?" Logan asked. "Afraid you'll miss entirely?"

Scott lifted his glasses and his optic eye blast shot straight at the white billiard cue, propelling it towards the others. Hitting the balls right at the proper angle, they broke in all different directions, spinning towards the different holes. Logan watched with amazement as the final eight ball dropped in after all the others.

"Eight ball, corner pocket," Scott grinned, replacing his glasses.

Logan pulled his cigar out of his mouth. "How'd you do that?"

"A simple case of spatial geometry," Scott said. "I haven't tried that trick in awhile. I'm glad to see I haven't lost the knack since the old days."

"You hustled me?" Logan asked.

"Yep," Scott said. He shrugged. "I can't help if you think I'm a boy scout."

Logan said. "Why?"

Scott shrugged. "Because I could." He said. "Rack 'em, Logan."

"Summers, there may be hope for you yet," Logan said.
