A little depressing but not overall surprising Big Finish news: there was a
post in the Big Finish Listeners facebook group yesterday. The Big Finish day had included the Stargate range in its programming and Jason Haigh-Ellery told the story of MGM allowing BF to advertise the new audio range on their facebook page to reach the Stargate fans. Well, the Stargate fans responded as only they do -- pages and pages of hate and how they didn't want this and why couldn't it be a real tv series and so forth. (Needless to say, Stargate fans come off as a bunch of ungrateful idiots to the British fans.)
I'm not surprised, because I've read beneath the lines of
jo_graham's journal enough to know how the books have struggled to find an audience. And audio frankly doesn't have the recent history in the US until fairly recently with things like Night Vale. We have audio books, but we don't really have audio drama on regularly. They're on the internet, yes, but to the average person, they may or may not encounter those. It's not the UK where they're still doing audio drama regularly on BBC.
I will say the BF initial format didn't do them any favors either with a single cast member telling the story with the occasional guest cast. I don't know if the Daniel/Vala ones were any better.
