For fandom_stocking I received:

Two lovely sets of Ava Gardner icons, one from jordannamorgan and one from chokolattejedi

A Jeff/Rowan story (Anne McCaffrey) from merfilly

And lot of holiday/new year wishes. ani_bester's Bucky/Natasha New Year's piece was pretty.

I was a horrible flake courtesy of my laptop issues, but I will finish the one story I promised. The new laptop is coming this week, along ( Read more... )

Nyargh. I wish I'd known you were in the market, I could have given some really useful advice. Namely, don't get an Inspiron! Get a Latitude, and make sure it can get Pro Support and 3-yr warranty as an addon. That broken hinge on your old one? they would have come to your house to fix it! And you wouldn't have had to spend on a new lappie. As long as you're not trying to game on it (as in anything intense, not the flash games you play), it would have worked well for you and you'd be protected against anything whatsoever going wrong.

ETA: They don't give the good customer support to most of the home machines. So if you ever need to call them, good luck, you'll get some fool in India who is working off a script and isn't certified with the machines. Personally I think it's worth considering a call to see if you can swap it, since they haven't shipped it yet. It's a bit more money but it's such a peace of mind knowing that you can call over anything that goes wrong with it, hardware or software, and they take your call instantly and help you.

The laptop shipped today, so swapping is a no-go. It'll be here on Thursday. I did however get their "full support" for a year when I bought the computer, rather than the basic.

I wonder what "full support" is? I do know you can add on warranty time. They don't publicize it, but you can. My 3-yr is expiring in July and I'm going to add another two years.
