Shortest research trip in history

Writing is not faring so well these days. Every time I think I'm finding momentum, I sputter. I'm thinking about writing something for batfic_contest if the muse doesn't take one look at Gotham and disappear in the other direction. My muses have nothing if not a well defined sense of self-preservation.

The Cheetah research took a Golden Age detour through the funny pages. I came across scans of the "Wonder Woman" comic strip that ran for a few months from 1944-1945. The strips are interesting because they cover some of the same territory as Wonder Woman #6, only from different perspectives. We never actually see Priscilla's first encounter with Diana Prince in the comics. In the strips Pris brazenly pushes her way into General Darnell's office. The strips show more of what happened before Wonder Woman took the stage, including the admission that the chains/bondage paraphernalia were all collected by Priscilla. And such a sweet girl, you'd never know. After Wonder Woman breaks out, the story is completely different. The crowd turns on Priscilla for using the magic lasso on Diana. It's a stark contrast to her feigning complete innocence in the comic. Later strips even go into Cheetah's punishment, which is alluded in the book, but never shown.

The scans are not the best quality alas. I was hoping the strip ran in the Washington Post, so I could print off better reading copies. First the microfilm broke on the reader. And then I accessed the database archive and pulled up a couple of days worth. While her adventures may have been in Washington, she was nowhere in sight. However I discovered Steve and Diana probably read Terry & the Pirates. Superman was also running in the Post. I'll ask around on my newspaper strip mailing lists to see if anyone knows which newspapers it ran in or conversely has better copies. I'm not afraid to trudge down to LC if I absolutely have to.

I haven't forgotten about the ww_tv. In fact, I'll be putting up a thread for the pilot movie soon.
