Fannish squee cubed

I had a lovely lovely time at marag's fannish swap yesterday meeting among others heatherly, mscongeniality, greenygal, pleasance, neotoma and likeadeuce. I am usually fairly lousy with names. Faces and voices I'm great with, but attaching names? Not so much. Sorry about that.

We traded everything from books to cds to dvds to very very random issues of comics. I went with four things and of course I came home with far more. *hangs head* Oh well, I had mostly good intentions. I wound up with a couple mysteries and some random issues of assorted DC comics. Next time maybe I won't be so hesitant to bring more manga, because mscongeniality is liable to snatch it out of my hands. You have to move fast on these things. Excited squeals and "ooh ooh!" also works well I noticed. There was much fannish discussion and commentary in between. Like marag said, it's nice to be a place where you can use the fannish shorthands. "You remember the time Batman did..." "Oh yes, he did this also..." You also don't have to be embarrassed for liking certain characters or hating others or offering up issues with same. It's all part of the fannish network.

Afterwards we closed down the Noodles and Company eating and chatting away. The subjects ranged far and wide from comics to health to teaching to Leverage & NCIS. (I was about write Leverage/NCIS and I really don't want to know what a crossover of that would be like.) To my amusement I also bumped into several old friends from my former writing group. It was very surreal.

Right now, after finishing season three of West Wing, I am back to packing and organizing for the now annual Christmas pilgrimage to Florida. marag & heatherly has managed to get a dastardly West Wing crossover in my head. I am endeavoring to shake it off, because I love the show, I don't think I can write the show. I did manage to get back a little by firing off my own crossover suggestion. *looks innocent*

As an aside, finally seeing the Mark Harmon "West Wing" episodes was interesting. I remember hearing about them at the time and doing the same scoff as everyone else -- "Mark Harmon? The tv hunk?" Ok, he's actually gotten better with age. Funny, I didn't like either him or Clooney when they were younger, but with a little grey... Does he use a different voice as Gibbs?
