Infinite Crisis: the audios

Graphic Audio has released an audio adaptation of Greg Cox's Infinite Crisis novel in two parts, running six hours each. I bought the MP3 cd versions for an early birthday present, but they are also available as WMA downloads or regular cds. They ship damn fast. Granted, I'm fairly local to their headquarters in Maryland, but I had my order in only a few days. Graphic Audio is doing a similar adaptation of Cox's 52 novel starting in December. Basically they're high end audio books with a full cast covering the infinite cast of heroes and villains along with music and special effects. I've only listened to half of the first part, but everything is quite well done thus far. The voices are extremely well chosen with only a few clunkers. I'm not wild about the choice of Batman, although he does fine as the main narrator and other voices. If you know the characters, the exposition and descriptions can be a little unwieldy.

And clearly I've been influenced by some of my slash friends. When Kon is watching television at the Kent Farm and the Omacs are closing in on Tim, Kon's heart skips a beat. Of all the Titans Kon attacked when under Luthor's control, again he obsesses on that he nearly killed Tim. Didn't he come just as close to killing Cassie?

On the other hand, they do appear to interweave parts from other Infinite Crisis tie-ins, so it's not just adapting the mini-series, but the whole plotline, expanding small cameos like Crispus Allen's encounter with Captain Marvel. Obviously with something this length, other whole sections will be pared down or deleted, so I'll be curious to see how this progresses. I'm enjoying it thus far.

(It goes without saying that it isn't a family friendly audio, though. I'm listening to the gruesome fight against the Freedom Fighters now. *grimaces*)
