Back when I was watching "Cold Squad" actively, several people tried their hands at writing crossovers between the series and Highlander. Usually Simon Ross was Methos, although in one notable example, he... wasn't. [I still want to write my take on that subject.] Anyway, I added more twist in my crossover with Sgt. Ali McCormick, the head of the "Cold Squad" team, turning out to be an immortal as well. This little snippet occurs much later when Joe Dawson has been shoehorned into helping Methos find Ali's older existence.
"I did some research for you," Joe began. "I don't know *why* I'm bothering when you have the entire police force at your disposal." Methos glared at him. "But even I was little intrigued when my searches in the Watcher database ran colder than some your McCormick's cases."
"Maybe she's too young," Methos suggested. "Maybe she became an immortal in the last few years and no one caught it in time." He shrugged. "Immortals slip through the cracks all the time. The Watcher records are filled with incomplete information on the first deaths of immortals."
"Nice theory," Joe Dawson said. Methos looked immensely pleased with himself. "Except for one slight problem."
Looking deflated, Methos asked. "Which is?"
"I said her name didn't show up in database, so I started checking faces, especially ones we haven't already identified." Joe reached into a folder, withdrawing two photographs from his files. He placed the glossy pictures on the table. "Your lady sergeant isn't quite that young." The color pictures showed a challenge between two immortals. The second picture clearly showed Ottawa's Parliament House in the background. Even with the ultra-blonde hair, Methos easily recognized Sgt. Ali McCormick, holding her longsword in fighting stance.
Methos asked. "When was this taken?"
"1970," Joe replied, surprising Methos. "She was challenged by Owen Kistler, a 70 year old psychopath, a real charmer." Methos picked up the second photograph to examine the details more closely. Ali's challenger lay pinned to the ground, his bearded head barely visible. "Needless to say, your friend got the better end of that encounter."
"A Watcher turned up the photos when he was researching Kistler's Chronicle," Joe continued the story. "He didn't recognize the female immortal and neither did the Ottawa Watcher. Apparently she must not have stayed long enough to establish an identity. He was hoping I might have a name in my files. Or maybe be able to connect her to one of my Jane Does."
Methos frowned. "Did you?"
"Not yet," Joe said, "but like you say, Watchers miss quite a few. Your sergeant appears to have gotten lost in the shuffle. I'm going to keep going through the faces and names, see if I can find a missing connection. I'm already going through the Canadian immortals." Methos nodded. "Look, do you mind my asking, why are you so interested? Usually you see another immortal and hightail it in the opposite direction..."
