Wesley is waiting for Illyria to come into his office.
This day, she will say. What name is it given in your cycle of days?
And he will answer. I give it... Monday.
And this conversation, she will say, We've had it before.
You don't look all together well, he will say.
Your opinion of me, it weighs less than sunlight.
She will accuse him of trying to kill her, and he will deny it.
Then he will find Angel and Spike, he will take the weapon, he will go to the training room, and all of them will die.
Then he will be back in the office and it will repeat. Again, and again, and again.
Wesley isn't sure when he began to notice the repetition. He isn't sure when he stopped feeling the pain. He doesn't mind dying anymore. There's a soothing rhythm to it. Nothing changes much. It's all a comfort. No surprises.
So he sits here in the office and he waits. And he waits.
And then the door opens --
*
"Wesley!" gasps the girl with the tray.
"Harmony?" Wes blinks. This is a change. It's not an entirely unwelcome one, though. He glances at the contents of her tray. "Thank you, Harm. I could use a nice cup of coffee, and you always make a nice cup."
"But, Wesley! You're not. . .you don't." She looks down at the tray. "I do, don't I?" Walking toward him, the blonde vampire puts a little motion in her hips and says. "I made it black, the way you like it. Well, actually, I just didn't put anything in it yet, because have I mentioned where you're not supposed to be in this office?" Wesley is picking up the coffee mug as Harmony says, "You haven't worked here for like twenty years."
"Twenty!" Wesley gasps. He almost drops the cup, steadying it on the desk at the last minute. Some hot liquid spills on his fingers, and he swears, raising his fingers to his mouth.
Harmony's face squishes up as though she were concentrating. "Well, now that I think about it. . . . more like three. That was the third season of Idol. . .you know, the one with Fantasia? And now we're on six."
"Yes, of course," Wesley says, starting to grasp that the time loop he was caught in has, for whatever reason, been broken. And, to be fair, the difference between three years, and twenty, to an immortal creature like Harmony. . ."Harmony, if you don't mind, could you begin at the beginning?"
"Well. . ." Harmony says, eyes lighting up, "Most people think it all started Justin and Kelly, but before the American version. . ."
Ahh, yes, Wesley thinks. It's good to be back.
*OOC -- I've had Wesley for a while, but have been trying to think of a good way to introduce him. Darlamun suggested using the time loop in the S5 episode "Time Bomb," which is where the quotes in the first part of the post come from. Harmony's cameo is a tribute to my very first TM-muse, who I picked up twenty. . .I mean two years ago. I'm looking forward to playing back in the Buffyverse again!
